| The members, officers and staff of Local 196 would like to welcome you to our website. We are proud of our history and proud of our previous generations of I.B.E.W. Lineman, Operators, Groundsman Helpers and Government workers who passed on their knowledge and made sacrifices to make us stronger today. Over one hundred years ago, in 1891, ten men met above Stolley's Dance Hall in St. Louis in hopes of bringing a better life to those in the electrical trade. Then, apprenticeship training was unheard of and safety consisted of trial and error. Those ten men then became the founders of the National Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (N.B.E.W.), which later became the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) in 1899 when jurisdiction extended to include Canada. We are always interested in hearing from people that are in need of help at work. If you work for a City, Contractor, or other company that is having trouble with your boss and need help just call. We have over 20 contracts that we deal with to help give workers a voice in the condition of there employment and to make sure they do not have to stand on their own in times of trouble. We have years of experience dealing with your boss for you. |
